The Art of Making Ceramic Masterpieces
From Clay to Handmade Beauty
The pieces are meticulously handcrafted from porcelain, and skillfully shaped using thinly rolled clay canvas that stretches the medium to its limits. This method results in an ethereal and delicate quality. Texture plays a pivotal role, focusing on incorporating tactile elements. Each piece originates from a single slab, expertly shaped and contoured. Nature's captivating imagery and textures serve as the wellspring of inspiration, translating into captivating forms.
Intriguingly, some of the larger pieces undergo an innovative process. When the clay reaches the leather-hard stage, it's artfully cut. After an initial bisque firing at 1000°C, it is rearranged. This bold approach adds a unique dimension to the final composition, which is then glaze -fired to reach temperatures of 1230°C. What sets these creations apart is the delicate interplay of colours achieved through meticulously crafted homemade glazes. The use of underglazes and oxides further harmonises with the pure porcelain body, producing a captivating palette. Certain pieces find their place on boards coated in an off-white cellulose paint, while larger works are elegantly showcased on etched panels encased within clear glass sheets, all nestled within a beautifully finished limed woodgrain bevelled frame. |
